DKC 50: The Boston Trilogy

In March of 2013, Jason Superior and I traveled to Boston, MA to attend PAX East 2013.

…if you don’t know what PAX East is, I’ll try to sum it up for you in three words.  Video.  Game.  Convention.

We played games.  We watched videos of upcoming games.  We drank.  We ate.  We recorded three podcasts.

In truth, less than half of the content of DKC 50 has anything to do with gaming at all.  That said, even in the days of Doublekill.US, our content wasn’t so much about video games as it was an attempt to make the scene a little more mainstream, a little more accessible, and a little more entertaining than the content that already flooded the internet.

Looking back, I think we consistently made a better product for gamers (and certainly for non-gamers) than almost anyone out there, and I’m exceedingly proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Though the future of DoubleKill may be uncertain, the one thing that I’m certain of is that DKC50Boston is a very raw, uncensored look at friendship.  At the risk of sounding of a total bitch, I think that these three hours are the perfect culmination of everything we’ve set out to accomplish since day one.

To make it a little easier to deal with, I’ve provided the three podcasts individually below.  If you’re feeling like a badass, feel free to click on the (almost) 200 minute long one.

Thanks for listening to two guys who like to drink and swear about video games.

“Let’s each do our own podcast, and then link them together for the sake of innovation!”

…yeah, that’s it.  It couldn’t be that we’re ridiculously busy getting ready for PAX or anything.

Anyway, this week, on the Double (Single) KillCast:

Jason Superior talks about

  • SimCity is broke as fuck, yo.
  •  PAX!
  • Borderlands 2, FarCry 3, and Saints Row 4
  • Founder’s Packs are fucking awful.  Stop supporting this bullshit.

Then, Jason Omega talks about

  • SimCity is broke as fuck, yo.  Like Diablo III was.
  • Defiance looks good.  Or terrible.
  • BattleBlock Theater is the reason he’s going to PAX.  Oh, and beer.
  • There’s no way in hell the Steam Box is going to cost $1000.  Probably.

There’s probably a lot more in the two monologues that comprise the D(S)KC this week, but to find out what, you’ll have to listen to dkc49.

DKC 48.5: Bumpers & Outtakes

This week’s Double Killcast is unlike any other in that it is not a Double Killcast at all.

See, the thing is: we’re busy.

PAX East is a mere 12 days away, and we have a lot of shit to do.  We decided that we’d take a week and peel back the curtain a little bit for you, our loyal fans.  This week, in lieu of a proper Double Killcast (is there such a thing as a proper DKC?), we would give you a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes when we record our show.  While it’s true that we do every show in one take (no editing, no censoring, etc), the process of recording a bumper (the little chatter at the start of the show, before the music comes in) isn’t always so smooth.  See, we record that little bit after we do the show itself, that way we have an idea of what we talked about and it makes a proper lead-in.  The thing is, we rarely (read: never) get a bumper we like on the first shot.

This is a collection of those forgotten bumpers.  The ones that didn’t make the cut.

We’ve also included a few of our “mic check” conversations here and there throughout.

Overall, you’ll likely find a few spots that make you laugh.  If nothing else, you’ll probably find the back-and-forth between the Jasons to be at least mildly entertaining.

Here it is, DKCBUMPERS.

DKC 48: “Particularly The Firefighters” or “I Don’t… Unrecommend It.”

This week on the Double Killcast:

  • Superior tells us about Bombermine.
  • Superior tells us about RIOT.
  • Omega tells us about The Bridge.
  • Omega tells us about Dwarfs.
  • Superior tells us about Shootmania.
  • Super has no idea what Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is called, but he tells us about it.
  • Omega has no idea which Crysis he is playing, so he doesn’t really tell us anything about it.
  • Superior tells us about Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate and Omega tells us that he’s a total fanboy.  UPDATE:  The guys love playing Wii U games without using their television, so Capcom is fixing that.
  • The guys tell us about Wii U, and a few of the things that you may not have thought of.  Like porn.
  • Omega tells us more about Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate, and the 3DS.
  • Superior tells us about this one chick who is ridiculously good at Soul Calibur 5.
  • Superior tells us a story about Facebook & KDR, and Omega rants about how much he hates the internet.
  • Superior tells us about the Grand Champion of Q*Bert (which is such a big deal that NOT EVEN GOOGLE KNOWS) and how he is a pile of shit.
  • Omega tells us about Astrosmash, becoming the world champion, and how you can’t be pissed off at people for not giving a fuck about something that they don’t give a fuck about.  #ThatsOnYou #GYSTOGYAK
  • “I don’t even play that anymore.”  and “Oh, you’re just now getting that?” are fun ways to shit all over someone else’s good day.

So, that’s all that.  Check out DKC48

This week, on the World Famous Double Killcast:

  • Omega explains why he’s still playing Candy Crush Saga.

  • …And the Psychic Network that runs the 2nd processor in the PS4.
  • …And something else the PS4 can do.
  • Crysis 3!
  • …And is the PS4 a sure thing to be this year’s Console of the Year? (hint: ooooooooooooooooh noooooooooooooooo)
  • Omega thinks 2013 isn’t going to be as good as 2012 was for gaming.
  • Is Supe joining the master race?
  • Omega has a Wii U now.  He loves it.
